When I Skimmed the surface of my smaller stagnant water pool what I obtained was a clear water sample (just a little yellow from leaf dyes). I did find a few tiny bits of flotsam which I added to the microscope slide. I couldn't see anything in this when I looked with low power. When I cranked the power up I was in for a big surprise.
