Nine Holocaust Poets features the work of both Christian and Jewish poets whose lives were severely impacted by the Holocaust either through imprisonment in ghettos or concentration camps, or being forced into exile due to their political or religious beliefs. The author's featured in this work are Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945), Max Hayek (1882-1944), Max Herrmann-Neiße (1886-1941), Gertrud Kolmar (1894-1943), Else Lasker-Schüler (1869–1945), Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger (1924-1942), Miklós Radnóti (1909-1944), Marianne Dora Rein (1911-1942), and Ilse Weber (1903-1944). Several of them were able to write specifically about their experiences while imprisoned, while others did not have that opportunity. These poets capture the meaning of the difficult times they lived in words that are still worth reading, and offer readers a warning to guard and protect their freedoms in difficult political times.
