This is starting tomorrow, folks, so get ready! Dear Membership -- Here's information about a new Creativity Challenge Program that will be introduced here at Wild on Monday, July 11, 2005 _________________________________________________ Title: WPF's Weekly Creativity Challenge Objectives: To stimulate more member involvement in Wild. To increase traffic on Wild and secure new members. To advertise useful poetry books that people may not know exist. To educate and teach our membership new poetry formats and theories. Description: On Monday of each week, a Creativity Challenge will be posted by Admin. It will ask members to write a poem based on specific criteria. Most of the challenges will be taken from poetry books on the market, though some will be created by WPF Admin and Staff. The Challenge participants will then have six days to complete the Challenge. The poems will be read and judged by Admin (that means me, M) on the following Sunday evening and the winner of the Creativity Challenge will be posted along with the Poem of the Week Winner and Honorable Mentions on the following Monday. Poems entered into the Challenge should be new work written specifically for the Challenge. They should not have previously appeared on any forum within Wild or at any other writing/poetry website. To be considered, poems must be posted at any time during that week, but by Sunday BEFORE 6:00 p.m. (PST) of the Challenge Week. Poems posted on Sunday AFTER 6:00 p.m. (PST) of the Challenge week will be ineligible. There must be at least three (3) participating poems in any particular week's Challenge, or the voting will be cancelled for that week. You do not have to participate in every Challenge. Some weeks, it may not fit into your schedule, some weeks the particular Creativity Challenge may not be of interest to you. But we hope that you will take this opportunity to become more involved in Wild as time and interest permit. Poems currently in the Creativity Challenge are NOT eligible for Poem of the Week or IBPC consideration in the week that they are in the Challenge, and should NOT be posted in any other place within Wild except that week's Creativity Challenge thread. After that particular week's Creativity Challenge is over, however, the Challenge poems may be reposted on any of our other IBPC boards for Poem of the Week and IBPC consideration and for comments by the general membership of Wild. The Weekly Creativity Challenge is open to members only, so you must be a registered member of Wild to participate. Only one (1) entry per member per week, please. Moderators and other staff at WPF (with the exception of Admin, of course) ARE eligible to participate in the Challenges. Poems will be judged on how well they fit the Challenge criteria. All judge's decisions are final. There is no monetary compensation connected with this Creativity Challenge. The terms and conditions of this WPF Creativity Challenge Program are subject to change at any time. Forum: ~BALANCING QI~ (Community Involvement Forum) -- formerly knows as The Fates Forum _________________________________________________ Should you have any questions or comments regarding this new Creativity Challenge Program, please post them here in this thread or write to us at adminwpf@wildpoetryforum.com We hope you will be most pleased with this new activity and that you will participate as much as you can. But most important, learn, have fun, and enjoy! Love, M (Administrator) ------------------------------------------------- UPDATE (August 2005): The WPF Weekly Creativity Challenge is now a compensated program. All the weekly winners will be pooled each month and a Grand Prize Winner will be determined at month's end. That winner will be announced at the beginning of the following month and be awarded a $5 Amazon.com Gift Certificate that may be used in WPF's BookShop toward the purchase of books or any other product. The reward program will begin with the August 2005 Weekly Creativity Challenges entries. As always, terms and conditions of this program are subject to change at any time. UPDATE (January 2007): The value of the monthly Grand Prize Winner's Amazon.com gift certificate has been increased from $5 to $10. UPDATE (June 2009): The deadline for Challenge entries has been moved from 6:00 p.m. (PST) on Sundays to 9:00 p.m. (PST) on Sundays of any given week. . |

I have a request for a clarification on the current challenge. The challenge states " ... a poem which can be read in either direction ... " Does that mean it can be read in *both* directions at the same time, or that it can be read normally *or* it can be read upside down, and which way is up to the author to decide? The first reading of the challenge would definitely be harder, so if the second is what is meant, I'd like to know. Thanks. |

hi joshua ok, not sure exactly what 'reading both ways at the same time' really means, but the challenge is to write a poem that can be read from the top down, and then re-read from the bottom up. as to which direction the actual text is put on the page, that is up to the author. ( line 1 to 28 forward and line 28-1 backwards) hope this clears up your issue s

That would be reading both ways at the same time, then. The one poem can be read both ways. ;) I just wanted to make sure I was reading the challenge right. Thanks. |
